Western Bureau:

Dawnette Atkinson, the mother of 20-year-old Jannoy Campbell, who was murdered while on her way to attend the annual ISSA Boys and Girls' Championships in Kingston, seven years ago, is still awaiting justice for her daughter.

The mutilated bodies of Jannoy and Nyoka Campbell were found with stab wounds and their throats slashed in bushes in Spring Village, in St Catherine, a day after they left for Kingston. Two men were arrested in connection with the incident.

The two young women hailed from Montego Bay and were students at the Western Hospitality Institute in the tourist capital.

"I used to attend court regularly but in 2015, the judge told me that I did not have to come all the time and that I would be contacted when I was needed," said Atkinson.

"After several months, I did not hear from the investigating officer, despite several attempts to reach him by cellphone. I decided to call the Old Harbour Police Station and was sent into shock when they told me the men were released due to lack of evidence," added Atkinson.

"I want justice fe mi daughter. Every day the feelings get worst and worst. Mi can't believe dem release de man dem behind mi back, and de investigator tek weh himself," lamented Atkinson. "Mi plan fe hire a lawyer because mi want de case fe reopen. Mi need fe get some closure fi mi child gruesome murder."

According to Atkinson, on Friday, March 12, 2012, her daughter, who was a regular patron at 'Champs', told her that her friend Nyoka was getting a ride to the venue, and she was going to travel with her. After the girls left, she tried to contact them by phone but without success.

The following afternoon, the police in Old Harbour contacted Atkinson to bear the bad news.
