Falmouth FC, Duanvale put one foot in final
Despite winning the first-leg semi-final of the Grandeur Transportation Services-MonyMusk Rum Trelawny FA Major League, Dr Dean Weatherly, coach of Falmouth United, was not entirely pleased.
Falmouth recorded a 3-1 win over Coopers Pen FC at the Elleston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth.
Alex Williams (22nd), Theodore Hopwood (34th) and Deveron Clarke (47th) were the goalscorers for Falmouth.
Shannary Brown scored the consolation goal for Coopers Pen from the penalty spot in the third minute of stoppage time, just before the final whistle.
"It was a good result in terms of us scoring three goals, but I was a bit displeased in not ending the game with a clean sheet. It's one of those games we just have to go back to the drawing board and tweak where we saw some mistakes," said Weatherly.
The veteran coach added that his team was not clinical enough in front of goal.
"We are creating the chances but just not converting to goals, which can come back to haunt us for the rest of the season," he added.
Coach of Coopers Pen, AndrE Campbell, who blamed poor officiating for their loss, said he is happy they got a late goal that he believes will be crucial if they are to overhaul Falmouth in next week's second leg.
"Most definitely. It wasn't what we expected. We had a rough game. However, we got a goal in the last, which is really important. Next week, we will come and turn it around," said Campbell.
"I wouldn't blame the players, but we had some rough calls which next week I will just have to tell the players not to pay attention to. We just have to play our game and let what the referees say be final," he added.
In the other semi-final clash, Chevaughn Barrett's double strike (48th and 87th) inspired Duanvale FC's comeback from two goals down at half-time to record a 3-2 victory over 10-man Friendship FC.
AndrE Colman's goal in the first minute of stoppage time secured the win.
Goals from DeJohn Hylton (35th) and Garel Gooden (37th) had given Friendship the ascendancy in the first half.
But after the sending off of captain Garel Gooden for unsportsmanlike conduct in the 52nd minute, Duanvale took control.
The second-leg semi-finals will be blamed on Sunday with Coopers Pen will play Falmouth at 1 p.m. and Friendship and Duanvale at 3 p.m.
