Marvin Peterkin, coach of Real MoBay Academy FC, who advanced to the finals of the JFF/Partners Co-operative Credit Union Women's Football Knockout Cup, said knowing that they stood no chance in the League format makes them even more determined to win the knockout.

Real MoBay progressed to the finals after defeating St Ann Women 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 full-time score last Saturday.

"We started out a bit flat. We lost our first four games, which resulted in us now not in contention for the league. We started to come into our own the last games of the first round ... so from there we have been making progress, but we left it a bit too late, hence we won't make it to the (league) semi-finals," said Peterkin.

He said the team set out to make both finals but in the last league game, they drew 1-1 with Olympic Gardens, ruling them out of the semi-finals.

"So we decided that we are putting everything into making the finals (of the knockout) and also win," he said. "It would mean a lot for us. Over the years since we started in 2014, we have been steadily progressing. This year we made our first semi-finals, so progressing to the finals we are looking for a victory. We have put in a lot; and this is also an indication that football in St James is back on a rise."

This Saturday, they will be going up against the Waterhouse Women team that is undefeated so far this season, at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium at 4 p.m.

Peterkin said he would be banking on his experienced players, including captain Kimberly Petgrave, to topple the highly favoured Waterhouse.

"We have another senior player in Jody McGregor, who is a national player, and some other young, exciting players who are in their first season and looking to break out. Also, kudos to our young goalkeeper, Brianna Coleman, who has been a rock for us, taking us this far in her first season," said Peterkin.
