One Third eyes hit song
Jamaican trio One Third still has a long way to go before the calculation of their musical career is complete, but there is a lot of hype behind the name, and all that's needed is for them to find the right song to officially break out.
The three singers Al Johnson, Adrian Campbell and Miguel Walters who won the Digicel Rising Stars competition in 2006, disappeared for a little while but have returned unchanged in terms of the stylish image they are known for, and with a new approach and EP called The Journey.
Now under the management of Ewan Simpson, attorney-at-law and musician, One Third is focused on writing, producing and performing music that covers universal themes while still representing Jamaica on the global stages.
"I believe that by now they have found their rhythm. They would have gotten an opportunity to establish an artistic identity which, initially, was hard," Simpson told THE STAR.
"This is the first compilation of work; a few singles had been released before, but most were covers. Although it is just five tracks, listeners can now get a feel of what their story is," he continued.
The EP is a product of a number of persons coming together to make it possible. It features the musical styling of veterans such as Third World's Stephen 'Cat' Coore on cello in the fifth track, Hitchhiker, and popular musician Everol 'Stingwray' Wray on a couple of tracks, too.
"Contrary to popular belief, the beauty of One Third is that each time we perform, we do it to earn another performance or add value to the name, and that cycle has been ongoing for the last 12 years. Even though One Third may not have a hit song in the catalogue, we are working towards it," Miguel Walters said.
