Veteran dancer Dyema Attitude is urging dancers to take a stance against what she detailed as opportunistic artistes.

Dyema, creator of timeless moves like Dutty Whine and Hot Wuk, said artistes who create songs from dance moves should take the dance creators on tour.

"We know seh artistes nuh obligated fi give we money but at least give we a tour and mek we catch up by we self," Dyema told THE WEEKEND STAR.

"If yuh give we a tour and when yuh look, we naah help weself, and if we come out and bash unno, unno can talk. But, over the years, the artistes dem a stifle the dancers and mi feel like dem fi let we go and respect we because, if we don't build a dance, the artistes weh only sing dancing songs nah go have nothing fi sing."

Dyema said a tour is justified based on the role dancers play in helping to popularise such songs.

"When artistes do the song, dem lay dung inna dem bed and we go to five, six, seven dance just fi mek unno song go out deh. Memba, by dancing to unno song, a we buss unno song. Suppose when Tony Matterhorn sing Dutty Whine mi never dance to it? It wouldn't go viral and push weh it deh. A true mi a dance to it and wheel mi head and everybody a see it."

PERSONAL PLACE

Her grouse comes from a personal place as she said she was never brought on tour for her popular dance moves. Nonetheless, she said, "Mi haffi give props to Elephant Man. First time mi a go inna hotel, a Elephant Man. When Elephant Man a do him video, him pay we good. A mi and him work pon Sumfest, so him treat me good."

Dyema said, with the current atmosphere, some of her peers are recording their own songs to accompany their dances.

"Suppose the whole a we come together and start sing we own dancing songs? That's what happening nowadays. Me can sing, too, a just true mi nuh follow up that. But, if we come together and lick out and seh we nah go dance to dem song, what's gonna happen to those artistes? Dem get left."
