Christopher Martin tackles trust issues on new single
Reggae crooner Christopher Martin says that his latest single, Trust, is the realest song he's made since his 2013 classic Mama.
"I say that because the majority of my songs aren't about myself per se, I just conjure up some vibes in my head and we just write about it and things we see happening," he told THE WEEKEND STAR. "As it relates to Trust, it's just pure facts. Nothing nuh made up, it's real-life situations. You see the success that Mama has garnered, it's the same kind of vibes we a push for this one. It's something that hits home. Everyone can relate to it and as with the majority of my songs, when everyone can relate to it, it hits in a big way so we're expecting the same for this."
Produced by Cheeny Big Son Music, Martin said the song was inspired by a "very fresh situation" but explained that the topic is also something he's always wanted to tackle.
DISLOYALTY
"We're in the streets and you see it all over the world where people betray people," he said. "You thought you and someone were good and dem have your back and when an opportunity presents itself that seems more favourable to them, them switch and loyalty is thrown out the window. So we're using this [song] to tackle and highlight it. A nuh every time - just because it a go benefit you in a financial way or your brand - you a go violate people and their trust and belief in you. Morally, it's wrong, and yuh haffi have some semblance of order about yourself and stand up for something. Keep your standards man." On the heels of its release this Friday, Martin thanked those who remain loyal to him.
"Give thanks for the people weh a support and show me love. I appreciate it because I've been in music now for 17 years and a lot of people don't realise it's that long. To be maintaining and be as relevant as I am and still be on top of my game, a nuh me alone. It takes a team, my supporters and my people. I owe all of this to them," he said.
