Kidnapped schoolgirl released from hospital, probe launched
The 17-year-old schoolgirl who was abducted after boarding a taxi in the Cross Roads area of St Andrew has been released from hospital as police continue their investigation into the disturbing incident.
The probe is being jointly conducted by detectives assigned to the St Andrew North and St Andrew Central police divisions, which have described the matter as a serious offence that will be thoroughly investigated.
Police sources told The STAR that the teenager, a student of a high school in the Corporate Area, entered a taxi shortly before 5:00 p.m.
She was reportedly on her way to extra lessons in Half-Way-Tree when the incident unfolded.
Reports indicate that moments after the student boarded the vehicle, a woman who was seated in the back of the taxi placed a bag over the teen's head.
The girl reportedly lost consciousness shortly afterwards.
She was later found more than three hours later, about 8:40 p.m., along Parkes Road after being pushed from the vehicle.
Residents reportedly discovered the teen barefoot and distressed and sought to gather information from her about what had happened before the matter was reported to the police.
The police told The STAR during an update that the teenager was treated at hospital and discharged late Wednesday.
