The man accused of stabbing a 13-year-old Excelsior High School student during a family dispute in Harbour View has surrendered to the police.

He has been identified as 29-year-old Kemar Mitchell, who reportedly turned himself in to investigators assigned to the Kingston East Police Division on Thursday evening.

Mitchell is expected to be questioned by detectives today.

The incident, which sparked outrage across social media, happened about 10 p.m. on May 9 at the teen’s Bayshore Park home in Harbour View, St Andrew.

The injured child, Kemelia Paul, a seventh-grade student, was allegedly stabbed during a confrontation involving members of her family.

“My daughter and another relative try fi part the fight and push him off,” the teen’s mother, Josephine Mitchell, told The STAR earlier this week.

The teenager has reportedly undergone two surgeries so far, with more medical procedures pending.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
