Not an easy road - Portmore midfielder Ricardo Morris reflects on route to RSPL win
Portmore United midfielder Ricardo Morris said their journey to becoming national football champions was 'rough', but added that they needed it more than Waterhouse in Monday night's Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) final at the National Stadium.
The attacking midfielder was the centrepiece of the St Catherine team's impressive firepower all season, where they scored 64 goals. This is 11 more than the next best attacking unit in the league, last year's champions Arnett Gardens.
But after a below par performance from both himself and his team in the final, the former national under-20 player admitted that it was a tough three seasons trying to get to the top of local football.
"It has been a rough road. This is our third (straight) final and it was not an easy road. But we fought through it all as we needed it more, so we came out with determination and did it this time," Morris said.
INSPIRATIONAL RUN
The playmaker has excited local football fans this season with his inspirational runs, expert passing, and clinical finishing and is considered to be one of the top players currently in the league. However, he admitted that it was not a good game from him at the National Stadium on Monday.
"It was not the best game (from Portmore) but we stood up and came out victorious. It was not my best game either, but together we pulled through. We hung in there even though things weren't going the best," he said.
He is now confident that if Portmore continue doing the things they have done over the last three seasons, they can get better and defend their championship. "Next season will be the same, don't expect any changes. We are going to be better because we will have to come and defend the title," he said.
Morris finished the season with 11 goals.
